Held every second year in the first week of January, the George Bass Marathon is the longest open surf boat race in the world and one of the toughest races on the surf boat competition calendar. Tathra Surf Club has an unbroken record of being one of only two surf clubs to have entered and completed the Marathon since its inception in 1975. The event starts in Batemans Bay and surf boats make their way down the coastline, calling in at coastal towns along the way. It is a great spectacle and if you are in Tathra in the first week of January make sure you make it to the beach and cheer the boats as they surf in to the beach.

Celebrate Australia Day at Tathra with a day out fishing with the chance to win great prizes. The Tathra Fishing Club has held this two-day competition since the early sixties. It is now a tradition that enables Club members from all over Australia to get together and catch up. It is also a chance for holiday makers to enter and have some fun while learning from the locals where the best spots to fish are. Seas on Australia Day are usually perfect for fishing with boats venturing out from Kianinny Bay to the 'shelf’, while others choose the wharf, beach or inlet to try their luck at pulling in the big one. Following the final weigh-ins is a BBQ back at the Fisherman's Club. A great weekend for those that love their fishing. Visit www.tathrafishingclub.com.au

The Scenic Route along the Tathra-Bermagui Road is one of the most spectacular coastal drives on the Far South Coast. Passing through spotted gum forests in Mimosa Rocks National Park, the landscape then breaks into rolling green hills with a backdrop of densely wooded mountains to the north-west, peaked by Mumbulla Mountain, sacred to the Yuin people. For this reason it has attracted many creative people over the past twenty years and there are now artists, poets, writers, filmmakers, photographers and musicians living between Tathra and Bermagui – an area of great creative energy. Each Easter local artists open their studio doors for a meet and greet. It is a chance to see artists at work in their environment.
